This wonderful workshop will explore the world of calligraphy & letter forms to find exciting ways of adding an extra dimension to your design and craft work. We have been very lucky to have a guest tutor such as Peter, and I am sure this will be a most rewarding workshop for us all.
Letters and words can add layers of communication, and the workshop will entice you to use language as an additional dimension in your work. We will explore calligraphic forms, type and decorative letter fonts using various media such as: drawing, collage, pen work & painting. No previous knowledge needed!
By the end of the two day workshop you will have produced a variety of experimental works exploring decorative letters and the use of short quotations, and interesting thoughts-in visible form. The aim is to enable you to use the workshop as a starting point to introduce letters and words in *future work with glass, book binding or just taking the skills home to use on cards and paper work.

*[there will be future workshops added very soon! combining the above with book binding, lettering on and in glass, paper craft and cards. Attendees on these courses from this workshop will receive a £20 discount]

Radio interview and studio update

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/p00m4g75

Here's the link for my interview with 'Radio Stoke' today about my glass work and studio. A  short 5 min interview which went well, I hope it gives listeners an insight into what I do. I have been interviewed 3 times now by various radio stations and I still don't like listening back! Give it a listen :)

Well the last commission went into the kiln today to be fired - should be ready by 4pm tomorrow. It is a large window panel being delivered to Wales in time for Xmas. I will add some photos in the next day or two. Nice organic design to work on and my prefered colours too, so it was an enjoyable day.

Still getting calls for workshops before Xmas!! You must all be mad :) Our 1st Glass workshop in 2012 is on Jan 16th We have 2 places remaining if you would like to book [£10 discount if you follow me on twitter] We also have a BRAND NEW! Workshop in Feb 'Calligraphy, illumination & lettering' with a guest tutor. . . please get in touch if your interested asap if you want to grab the last 2 places!!! I haven't even listed it and its almost full. The course will develop later in the year, so you can use the new skill with your glass disciplin if you wish, or use it together with book binding! ....I have a few other bits & pieces up my sleeve for 2012 so keep coming back or follow me on twitter for updates.

Studio will be getting a spring clean next wk/sort out/maybe a swap around ready for the sandblasting machine I am investing in, both for my own work and for students to play with!

Still have to remind myself to blog! . . . I'm getting there but hope to step it up next yr.

If you don't visit here again before Santa arrives, have a Very Merry Xmas - enjoy the holidays, don't burn the turkey and take care.

Visit to the Chihuly exhibition on London - Bond st

Visited the Chihuly exhibition on Bond St London this week - If you love glass, art, exhibitions, want your mind expanded then go!! Willy Wonka of glass? I think so!

The exhibition itself was much bigger than expected, the gallery approached Chihuly over 6 yrs ago and since then purchased a building [and what a beautiful building it is] especially for this exhibition! Chihuly and team visited so each piece created was site specific. . . for any artist, even Chihuly, this was a huge task and venture but one that had to be completed. What an experience!

The staff at the gallery where very helpful, full of information and a delight to talk to. I will be returning in Feb before the exhibition ends with some of my students and friends - I will add the date here, so if you would like to join us please do get in touch. Maybe afternoon tea in Claridges? Well, a girl has to do what a girl has to do ;)

There was a few pieces I hadn't expected to see and work of an alternative style to his usual approach which made it refreshing - they also had some of his amazing, wacky and wondeful paintings on display.

The catalogues on sale are made to a very high standard indeed and a good price too - Yes, I had to buy one. Well ok, it was bought for me by one of my friends :)

His exhibition has already sold over 60% with prices from 11k to 3/4 million !

If you get the chance to go, you will not be dissapointed, and there are lots of other galleries to explore in the area......As well as fantastic restaurants - who know's? You may end up sat next to Ricky Gervais and Karl Pilkington. . . . another story! :)

Enjoy the photos I took - I will add more over the next day or so.
